Analysis of the Reasons for the Rising Price of Lithium Batteries

Lithium battery raw materials mainly include positive and negative electrode materials, electrolytes, separators and current collectors. Among them, the cathode material is the most critical raw material for lithium batteries, including lithium carbonate, lithium hydroxide, etc. Lithium batteries are widely used in electronic products, Energy storage, Forklift and new energy vehicles.

At present, many customers are reporting that the price of the battery has risen a lot, because:

1. The price of raw materials for lithium batteries is soaring

Since last year, the price of battery raw materials has risen sharply. Taking the electrolyte as an example, the increase has more than doubled, and the cost of the entire battery has also increased by 35%-40%. Judging from the increase of raw materials in the middle reaches of lithium batteries at the beginning of the year, lithium carbonate has increased by 270%, lithium hexafluorophosphate has increased by nearly 390%, and PVDF prices have increased 440%, the electrolyte increased by about 160%, so the pressure on the cost side increased.

Lithium battery demand soars

Benefiting from the global trend of energy conservation and emission reduction and the EU's agreement on carbon emissions, the global lithium battery market has entered a period of rapid demand development after 2018. According to Deloitte data, from 2017 to 2020, the global demand for lithium batteries continued to rise, with a compound annual growth rate of 22.17%. In 2020, the global demand for lithium batteries reached 279GWh. It is expected that with the continuous improvement of the global penetration rate of electric vehicles, the compound annual growth rate from 2021 to 2025 will reach 34.4%. In 2025, the overall global demand for lithium batteries will reach 1223GWh.

The most direct impact of the rise in the price of raw materials for lithium batteries is that the price of the battery is gradually rising. In order to cope with this situation, we OSN POWER ENERGY LIMITED decided to share most of our profits to customers. If the price rises, we also hope that customers can understand .
